Um, I'm pretty sure the Darkfall Passage one is the one you have to activate in order to ENTER the Forgotten Vale... I believe OP is referring to the one that's a pain in the@$$ to get to. When you reach the river that pushes you, even when you're in Vamp Lord form and flying, go against the current and you should end up at an ice cave. I am at the quest "Retrieve Auriel's Bow". I met the last of the Snow Elfs Knight-Paladin Gelebor. He tasked me to go through this portal to get through the Darkfall cave to the Forgotten Vale. My local map says I am still in the cave. And it is really dark, I keep retracing my footsteps and keep falling into the waterfall all the time all over.

You get to Darkfall Passage by taking the portal in the shrine behind Gelebor in Darkfall Cave. This shrine is guarded by Prelate Sidanyis. If you are currently in Forgotten Vale then you most likely filled the ewer already, since the portal to Forgotten Vale is after that wayshrine. You'll find Darkfall Cave in the northwestern part of Skyrim, south of Volkihar Keep. Inside, after taking a swim (#1), you'll meet Knight-Paladin Gelebor (#3), who will welcome you to what remains of the Great Chantry of Auriel. The other four are located in the Forgotten Vale, which you'll visit during the second part of the quest.

My position's direction and the map marker directions are conflicting. I am waiting at the 4th wayshrine as of now. Clairvoyance has been no help.
